When I was expecting my first baby, the phrase 'baby-led' jumped out a lot at me when I started to navigate my way through the parent thing. I knew that strict feeding and sleeping routines just weren't for me. Turns out, my eldest was such a feeding machine that there was no way he would have ever been put on a schedule anyway!

When I started my photography business, I knew that I wanted to apply this philosophy to my newborn photography sessions, too: working around their needs and natural behaviours rather than forcing them into unnatural positions or encouraging them to sleep when they're not ready.

So, I developed a style that works to capture you and your baby, in your home, as naturally and relaxed as possible, giving you timeless photographic memories you'll want to frame, print and treasure.

Flexible Timing

I tend to spend about two to three hours with my newborn families, but I'm not on the clock. All babies are different - there are no expectations that your baby will sleep through the session, or that they'll be awake and content the whole time. If they'll only settle on you, we'll go with it and you'll get the loveliest, snuggliest photos full of love and connection. This time is so fleeting.

Recovery Aware

As a mum of two, I'm very personally aware of how varied recovery can be after birth, and so I always work with you to minimise movement and physical stress and strain - another great reason to choose an in-home session over a studio. You don't even need to put your shoes on! :)

Although a lot of my newborn sessions happen within the first two weeks of birth, it's absolutely fine to wait a bit longer if you're not ready for me to visit and my in-home sessions can be booked at any time, even up to a year old!

Your Home is Your Story

Lots of my clients wonder if their homes are photogenic enough for an in-home session, particularly if they're in a rental and haven't been able to put their own personality into the decoration or furniture, but I always tell them not to worry! With a pre-session consultation we can talk about where to shoot and I can seek out some perfect, intimate, light-filled nooks in the house where you won't need to worry about clutter or decor!

I strongly believe photos as memories should conjure up a sense of place and context. Remember, these photographs are memories for your child, too. Your home is one of the first environments your child experiences in the world.

COVID-19 Safety

I follow the same guidelines as health and personal care professionals when it comes to COVID safety. My lenses enable me to keep well within the 2 metres social distancing limit, and if I need to come closer I wear a mask. I only shoot one family per day and sanitise my equipment and hands before and after every session. Working with you in a relaxed way in your home and not wrapping or posing your baby means that touch is minimised. If you have any questions or concerns I'm more than happy to answer them.
