Hannah Veale | Baby Photographer in Oxford

Newborn Photography Sessions at Home | MY PHILOSOPHY

Babies are never babies for long. It's easy to forget how quickly they grow. My in-home photo sessions for babies and their families are all about capturing and preserving those precious fleeting moments, expressions, and mannerisms that make up your baby in those wonderful, hazy, sleep-deprived first few days at home. Milk-drunk smiles, tiny toes, hanging out in bed, playing, sleeping, more windy smiles...

For my newborn photography sessions I try to schedule your session for within the first 14 days, but sometimes that's not possible, and that's completely fine! I tend to spend 2-3 hours with my families, but I'm not on the clock. We can work around your baby's needs, feeds and changes to ensure you and your baby are as relaxed as possible.

There are no babies in flowerpots or suspended in hammocks here: I will work with you to naturally and safely position your baby in swaddling or simple blankets for single portraits, and then also capture a variety of natural, beautiful images of your family in your own home.

“As a new mum it was nice to not have to go to a studio and have the photos taken in our own home instead. We felt instantly at ease with Hannah and she was fantastic with our nearly 3 week old son. We are absolutely thrilled with our beautiful photos of our little family and can’t thank Hannah enough! I would thoroughly recommend her. Thank you again for a fantastic session!”

My maternity and newborn families often ask me...

When is the best time to schedule a maternity session?

I'd recommend booking your maternity session any time after your 20 week scan, for a session date between about 30-34 weeks.

How do I book in a newborn session date when I don't know when the baby will arrive?

When you book a session with me, we provisionally book a session 10 days after your due date and I take a booking fee. When your baby arrives and you're ready, you can contact me to confirm this date or move it if needs be.

I am unsure about booking a session too early and would prefer to confirm when my baby arrives. Can I book at short notice?

Although I recommend getting in touch after your 20 week scan to guarantee a newborn session in the first two weeks, please do enquire even if your baby is already here because I may be able to fit you in at short notice.

What if we have a difficult recovery and aren't up for a session in the first two weeks. Is this ok?

Absolutely. The priority is the health and recovery of you and your baby, and I can come at any time that you feel ready and able. Babies tend to be more alert in sessions beyond two weeks, but are still tiny and gorgeous!

Can the whole family be part of the session too?

Of course! My newborn home photography sessions are designed to include your immediate family and all the love and joy that a new baby brings.

Do you bring props or backdrops?

My style is to capture you and your baby in your home an authentic, timeless way, so I don't use props or backgrounds. There are plenty of amazing photographers who do this type of photography in the area and I'd be happy to recommend some!

Do you still take Covid precautions?

You and your baby's health and safety is my absolute priority and since COVID, I am taking extra measures to keep everyone safe.

I am fully vaccinated and boosted, and take a Lateral Flow test on the morning of any newborn session.

Mask wearing is entirely up to you and you'll have the opportunity to request this in a pre-session questionnaire to avoid any awkwardness on my arrival!
